Bacillus based probiotics have been used in livestock feeds for almost 30 years. One major advantage to Bacillus based probiotics is their durability to survive the rigors of modern feed manufacturing. Bacillus probiotics are well recognized for their ability to control Clostridia and other pathogens of concern to animal health.
Novel QUATTRO™ is based on the foundation of B. subtilis and B. licheniformis. These two strains are the most commonly used Bacillus based probiotics in the cattle market today. While solid and effective at inhibiting pathogens and producing digestive enzymes, they are honestly old technology strains. Novel QUATTRO™ enhances the proven two-strain foundation by being the first to introduce B. coagulans and B. amyloliquefaciens together into a cattle probiotic.
B.coagulans is known for producing lactic acid but is not delicate and fragile like most Lactic Acid Bacteria probiotics such as Lactobacillus or Propionibacterium. B. coagulans is recognized for its resilience, capable of surviving high temperatures, acidic conditions, and salinity. B. coagulans is adept at producing lactic acid, particularly L(+) lactic acid, through the fermentation of sugars like glucose and xylose. This metabolic activity lowers the pH in the lower gut environment, creating unfavorable conditions for many pathogenic microbes. B. coagulans is proven to ferment both hexose and pentose sugars under anaerobic conditions at normal body temperatures.
B.coagulans is commonly used in human probiotics which is why most animal nutrition companies believe that it is “too expensive” for livestock feeds.
At Novel Feed Technologies, we are driven by doing what is right for the animal, not what is best for our bottom line.
Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, what a mouthful. We call it “amylo” to simplify.
“Amylo” is a known pathogen inhibitor as well as a strong enzyme producer, specifically generating amylase which is important for starch digestibility.
